Lot Description

A late Victorian silver vesta case, of oblong form with engraved scroll decoration surrounding a monogrammed shield cartouche, hallmarked Birmingham 1900, maker's mark partly obscured probably Joseph Gloster, width measures 3.6 cm. Together with an Edwardian silver vesta case, of plain circular form, hallmarked Birmingham W J Myatt & Co., Birmingham 1908, plus a modern silver matchbox holder, of rectangular engine-turned form, Birmingham 1979. Gross weight 2.8 ozt (87.5 grams). (3).

Postage: Postable

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

In good overall condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The hinged cover of the Victorian vesta case does not shut fully flush, with minor bumps and dents and loss of definition to the engraved decoration, the striker also appears quite worn. The matchbox holder has heavier tarnishing to the side where the matchbox striker would show through. Majority of hallmarks clear and legible.
