Lot Description

An early 20th century gold gem-set insect brooch. Designed as a fly, the split pearl and sapphire body, with similarly-set wings and circular-shape ruby eyes. Length 2cms. Weight 3.6gms. With case.

<li>Overall condition good to fair. Some surface scratches/wear and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear.

<li>Noticeable wear to several claws.

<li>Brooch fitting misshapen, base metal.

<li>Some possible gem replacements.

<li>Split pearls are a white to creamy white body hue, with faint roses and greens overtones.  

<li>Split pearls in good condition.<p>

<li>Diameter of principal split pearl 3.3mms. Unable to assess depth due to setting.

<li>Sapphires are a purplish blue hue. Two sapphires slightly vary in tone and saturation.

<li>Sapphires in good to fair condition. Two with small nicks. <p>

<li>Estimated dimensions of principal sapphire 5 by 3.3 by 1.8mms.

<li>Rubies are a well matched, purplish red hue.

<li>Rubies in good condition with minor nicks.<p>

<li>Width (at widest) 32mms.
