Lot Description
A George III silver nutmeg grater, the oblong form with concave sides, having hinged covers to top and base, the lid with central engraved stag's head crest and initialled 'R', opening to reveal a metal rasp, Hallmarked London 1806, maker's mark AJS possibly Alexander J Strachan. Length measuring 5cm, gross weight 73.2 grams.

Condition Report
In fair to good overall condition, displaying general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Several deeper scratches and nicks visible and the crest and initial are rubbed. The metal grater is significantly rusted. Gilding to interior with some heavy tarnishing and scratches. Both hinged lids appear in good working order and the case shuts flush and securely. Hallmarks rubbed with some distortion but still legible.
