Lot 691

Lot Description

A late Victorian silver caster of lighthouse form, the plain cylindrical body with a gadroon style lower girdle above a similarly decorated domed and spread base, the removable lid with bayonet locking and pierced with stylised foliate motifs. Hallmarked Josiah Williams & Co (George Maudsley Jackson), London 1894. Height including finial measuring 6 3/8 inches (16.2 cm), weight 6.2 ozt (193 grams).

Postage: Postable

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The overall condition of the caster appears good. Displaying some tarnishing throughout and some expected surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use. Solder visible along seam line of main body, possible repair?  The bayonet style closing is a little loose with some movement when locked although the lid does stay in position. The hallmarks to the main body are rubbed but still clearly legible. The matching hallmarks to the lid are partly clipped by pierced decoration but also still legible.
