Lot Description

A mid-Victorian silver entree dish and cover of oval form, the lid decorated with flowers and scroll motifs surrounding twin opposed cartouche containing engraved armorials, with beaded border detail throughout. Hallmarked Stephen Smith & William Nicholson, London 1857. Length of base measuring 21 inches (30.5 cm), weight  48.94 ozt (1522.3 grams).

Appears in good overall condition, displaying some general tarnishing and surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use. Some heavier contact marks to the underside of base. Deeper scratches to some areas and minor surface nicks. Some slight loss of surface detail to areas of the decoration but generally in good order. The removable handle fits well and securely and the lid fits well to the base dish. Full hallmarks to base and lid and matching part hallmarks to handle, all clear and legible. All parts numbered 1.
