Lot Description

A George IV silver vinaigrette by Nathaniel Mills, the rounded rectangular form with stipple punched borders enclosing floral and foliate motifs, the hinged lid further engraved with the 'all-seeing eye' and motto 'May it watch over you', opening to a silver-gilt interior with scroll pierced grille. Hallmarked Birmingham 1829. Length measuring 3.6 cm, weight 13.1 grams.

Appears in fairly good overall condition, displaying some general surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with age and use. Some heavier wear and nicks around edges and corners with some rubbing and loss of surface detail to areas of stippled borders. Rim split to flange of lid. Hinges appear in good working order. Gilt interior with pitted appearance. One corner of grille, near to hinge, with breaks in the piercing and repairs and residues of a grey substance to the reverse. Hallmarks rubbed but still clearly legible. Maker's mark to grille, 'M' clearly visible but hole through 'N'.
