Lot Description

An early Victorian silver vinaigrette, the oblong form with scroll edge, engine turned decoration to base surrounding an initialled cartouche and the hinged lid engraved with a view of the Scott Memorial, Edinburgh, with floral thumb-piece and opening to a silver-gilt interior with foliate scroll pierced grille. Hallmarked David Pettifer, Birmingham 1848. Length measuring 4.7 cm, weight 18.4 grams.

In fairly good overall condition, displaying some expected surface wear, marks scratches and nicks consistent with age and use. Some slightly heavier contact wear around edges. Some slight rubbing to surface decoration but generally still good. Main hinge appears in good working order. Grille hinge a little loose with a couple of splits. Dirt to interior. Hallmarks mostly clearly legible, maker's mark to grille partly worn.
