Lot Description

A George IV silver fish slice, with foliate pierced blade, engraved 'mermaid' crest to terminal and initialled verso, hallmarked James Payne, London 1828, length measuring 11 1/4 inches (28.5 cm). Together with a George III silver Old English pattern basting spoon, hallmarked London 1798, maker's mark worn, probably Peter & Ann Bateman, two Georgian silver teaspoons with later berry decoration and a Victorian sauce ladle and mother-of-pearl handled butter knife. Weight excluding knife 11.63 ozt (361.6 grams). (6).

In mixed condition, all pieces displaying some general surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with their age and use. Heavier wear to the bowl of the basting spoon, especially around the tip, which is slightly ground down. Also more significant wear to the berry spoons, particularly to the terminals. Some rubbing and slight distortion to hallmarks but mostly legible.
