Lot Description
A George IV silver snuff box, of plain rectangular form with ogee sides, with presentation engraving to the lid and opening to a silver-gilt interior, hallmarked Edinburgh 1825, maker's mark probably for James McKay, length 3 1/2 inches (9 cm). Together with an early twentieth century plain silver vesta case with crest engraved front hinge opening to a glazed oval aperture, hallmarked Georg Prag, London import 1908. Gross weight 5.43 ozt (169 grams). (2).

Condition Report
Snuff box very heavily tarnished throughout and in a fairly worn and tired condition. Heavier wear around edges and corners and a couple ofminor dints. Repairs to one corner. Hinged lid in good order. Hallmarks located to interior, struck twice, a little rubbed but all clearly legible. Engraving reads, 'From Colonel Oswald to Mr James Grier Pitfirrane Level Travelled Nov. 17th 1826.'
Vesta displaying some surface marks and scratches and a couple of minor dints. Some heavy tarnishing/staining and residue behind the hinge front opening and around the oval aperture. Likely for a miniature photograph? Hinges appear in working order. Hallmarks mostly legible.
