Lot Description

A silver apostle top spoon, probably Dutch, the bowl with engraved personal inscription and scroll surround to underside, leading to a scrolled and rope twist stem and figural terminal modelled as a cloaked figure and two infants, possibly St Christopher, part marks visible, including possible date letter, length 7" (18cm). Together with a nineteenth century German silver three tine fork, with City mark for Berlin and Kingdom of Prussia tax mark, alongside further marks, length 7.5" (19cm). Weight 3.09 ozt (96.4 grams). With scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing.

Spoon with a number of small indentations and nicks throughout. Marks worn. Interior of bowl with raised area, corresponding to crossed mark to underside. Engraving to underside of bowl details date 1809.

Fork with a number of small indentations and nicks throughout, particularly to prongs, and prongs slightly bent.

Spoon bowl tests around 85% and terminal around 88%

Fork handle tests around 77% and heel of prongs around 82%
