Full Lot Description

An Austrian silver-gilt and black enamel box, of rounded rectangular form, the hinged lid with arabesque borders enclosing an oval inset glass panel with intaglio reverse carved cherub scene (loose). With hoopoe bird 935 standard mark for Vienna, also stamped STERLING and 935. Measuring 7.6cm by 5.2cm. Gross weight 4.17ozt (129.7g).

  • Displaying some general surface wear, marks and scratches consistent with the age and use.
  • With many minor surface nicks all over and including around edges and corners. 
  • Some wear and losses to the silver-gilt and blackened areas around the edges and the decoration on the lid. 
  • Heavier scratched marks to interior. 
  • The oval glass panel is intact; shows some general surface scratches and there looks to be a little bit of damage to the knees of one of the cherubs. 
  • The glass panel and mount are loose and not securely attached to the box. 
  • Assay and standard marks are located inside the box, to both the base and inside the lid; with some other possible maker's marks.  
  • Also marked MADE IN AUSTRIA to one inner edge. 
  • Gross weight excluding the glass panel is 126.3g.
