Lot 25

Full Lot Description

A pair of early George III cast silver candlesticks by William Cafe, each with square base rising to a multi-knopped stem, spool shape socket, and detachable nozzle, with gadroon border detail throughout. Hallmarked London 1760. Height 25.5cm, gross weight 37.77ozt (1174.8g).

Dimensions: 25.5cm

Era: 18th Century

Metal fineness: Sterling silver

Postage: Postable

Date: 1760

Weight: 1174.8

Total lot weight: 1174.8

  • Both appear in fairly good overall condition given their age, displaying some general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing
  • Residues of dried polish visible to some areas and crevices
  • Residues of wax inside each socket
  • Some spots and patches of darker tarnishing
  • With some minor surface nicks and dints
  • Slight loss of definition to areas of the gadrooned decoration
  • Visible seams to both
  • Hallmarks located to each corner of base; these are in very good order; lion passant struck to each socket, these partly rubbed and distorted
  • Nozzles appear unmarked; they are a fairly good fit, one sits slightly higher but this may have more to do with the inside of the socket rather than the nozzle itself
  • Condition reports are offered as a guide only and we highly recommend inspecting any lot to satisfy yourself as to its condition.
