Full Lot Description
Anglo Saxon, pale AV Thrymsa. Post-Crondall, Pada type III, circa 655-675 AD. Helmeted bust right, runic legend outer beaded border / Cross with annulets in each angle, runic legend around. Metcalf 83; North 31; SCBC 770. 1.28g, 12mm.
Near Extremely Fine. Very Rare.
These coins were made of visibly debased gold, often appearing mostly silver, but containing between 10-35% gold. The weight of the piece differentiates it from its purely silver counterpart SCBC 773.
