Full Lot Description
Anglo-Saxon, pale AV Thyrmsa. Post-Crondall, Vanimundus type, circa 665-675 AD. Diademed bust right, holding sceptre, TII(retrograde Z) behind head, IVS clockwise before / + TmVSNVmVC, cross pattée within double beaded circle. SCBC 772. 1.26g, 12mm.
Good Very Fine.
These coins were made of visibly debased gold, often appearing mostly silver, but containing between 10-35% gold. The weight of the piece and a yellowish tinge differentiates it from its purely silver counterpart SCBC 774.
