Full Lot Description

A pair of George V silver twin-handled covered cups, each of circular bulbous form to a spread foot, decorated with a band of acanthus leaves around the lower body and further acanthus detail to the scroll handles and removable lid with acanthus modelled finial. Hallmarked Crichton Brothers (Lionel Alfred Crichton), London 1923. Maximum height including finial 14.5cm, length across handles 18.5cm, total weight 36.21ozt (1126.3g).

Era: 20th Century

Metal fineness: Sterling silver

Postage: Postable

Date: 1923

Weight: 1126.3

Total lot weight: 1126.3

  • Both cups displaying some general surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with their age and use
  • Residues of dried polish to some areas and crevices
  • Surface wear and rubbing to areas of the decoration, causing some slight loss of detail or definition, but overall remains bright and in good order
  • On one of the cups, the foot is slightly compressed into the base; consequently this cup now appears a few millimetres shorter than the other, especially on one side. Height to rim varies from 10cm to 9.5cm on lowest side
  • Both lids appear with many bashes around the inner rims, more so on one example, which also shows some slight knocks around the main rim
  • In spite of the damage, both lids do fit fairly well inside the rims of the main body
  • Both cups fully hallmarked to bodies and lids and all are clear and legible
  • Also with maker's name and address to each base
  • Condition reports are offered as a guide only and we highly recommend inspecting any lot to satisfy yourself as to its condition.
