All

A Jaeger-LeCoultre military watch has sold for eight times its low estimate at Fellows Auctioneers. The watch sold for £6,635.20 (including fees) against an estimate of £650 – £850. The stainless steel military issue wrist watch went under the hammer as Lot 428 in Fellows’ Watch Sale on Tuesday 18th June. Bidders from various bidding platforms flocked as the price rose into the thousands, with the ultimate hammer price for the Jaeger being £5,200.

The watch is stamped with a prominent British Broad Arrow, with a signed manual wind calibre 488, and is numbered 591107. The military timepiece has a black dial with Arabic numeral hour markers, and is fitted to an unsigned bi-colour nylon ‘NATO’ style strap with a stainless steel pin buckle.

As one of the final watches in the sale, the sale of the military Jaeger was the perfect end to a successful Watch Sale which has set off a busy summer of auctions at Fellows. Three minutes of bidding between multiple people across the internet, phone lines and commission bids saw the asking price soar. Specialist watch auctions at Fellows Auctioneers continue to thrive and throw surprises, with record prices frequently broken.

Steven Yambo, Senior Watch Specialist at Fellows Auctioneers, said: “Military watches are becoming very collectable, and this is a very nice original example. The watch itself had not been messed around with in the past and it shows its battle scars. It is increasingly difficult to find original examples of military watches like these on the market. It’s always a pleasure to have a nice military watch in the auction and we look forward to having more go under the hammer in the future. I can’t wait to see what surprises August’s auction will have in store for us.”
