Condition Report

A late Victorian gold gem-set butterfly brooch. The opal and sapphire body, with split pearl wings and red gem eyes. Opal AF. Length 2.9cms. Weight 6.2gms.

  • Overall condition fair. Some surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear.

  • One ruby eye, one red paste replacement.
  • Opal is chipped and cracked.
  • Opal displays good play of colour across a range of hues.
  • Estimated dimensions of opal 11.5 by 7.3 by 2.6mms.
  • Sapphire is a vibrant, deep blue hue.
  • Estimated dimensions of sapphire 4.2 by 3mms.
