A mid 20th century 18ct gold opal and diamond ring.

Condition Report

A mid 20th century 18ct gold opal and diamond ring. The marquise-shape opal cabochon, with brilliant-cut diamond collet and stylised foliate sides. Estimated dimensions of opal 21.6 by 10.4 by 3.3mms. Estimated total diamond weight 0.10ct. Ring size R1/2. Weight 4.3gms.

  • Overall condition good. Some surface scratches/wear and small dents in keeping with general age and wear.
  • Band slightly out of shape, possible replacement band.
  • Band shows evidence of resize, slight discolouration and pitting.
  • Diamonds well matched and bright.

  • Individual size and setting of diamonds prevents accurate colour and clarity assessment.
  • Diamonds have small, light and dark scattered inclusions.

  • Opal is translucent with good play of colour across a range of hues.
  • Opal in good condition with minor abrasion.

  • Width (at widest) 18mms.

  • Piece tests as approximately 18ct.
