An Edwardian Irish silver ice cooler and cover, engraved 'HMS Dublin, Presented By The Citizens Of Dublin December 1913' to the other side there is a depiction of the vessel in relief, the body with three acanthus leaf mounted reeded handles leading to stylised claw feet, the acanthus leaf capped cover surmounted with a hogs head. Hallmarked Edmond Johnson Jnr Dublin 1908/9. Height measures approximately 20ins (50cm), gross approximate weight 171ozt (5326 grams) H.M.S. Dublin was a second class cruiser built at Dalmuir, on the Clyde, and launched in April 1912. Armed with 8-6in. guns and displacing 5,400 tons, she enjoyed a busy service career and was in action at the Battle of Jutland (1916) and also in the Dardanelles in 1915. Surviving the War, she was scrapped in 1926.

Purchasing information
The cooler has general scratches, marks and tarnishing in keeping with age and use. The piece does carry some dints and bumps. A few small holes have worn around the feet and handles, also possibly a few repairs to these. One of the reeded handles does have a dent which has flattened the acanthus detail. The presentation engraving is almost completely removed and very difficult to read. The hogs head is a later Victorian addition, the mount being hallmarked Edinburgh 1855 and the makers mark M&S. All hallmarks are clear and legible.
