Description

Condition Report

ROLEX - a bi-metal manual wind gentleman's chronograph wrist watch circa 1948, the cream dial having gold dot hour markers, gold Arabic twelve and six o'clock, subsidiary minute counter and seconds dial to three and nine o'clock respectively, bordered by concentric seconds, telemeter and tachymeter tracks, the circular "coin edge" case fitted to an associated brown leather strap with pin buckle, reference number 4062, serial number 569386, signed seventeen jewel Valjoux calibre 23 column wheel chronograph movement. Case diameter 36mm. "Although Rolex are arguably most famous for their "Oyster" case watches, it is their earlier creations where many believe that the brand reached their aesthetic heights. This is an example of a desirable 1940s Rolex "Chronographe Antimagnetique" reference 4062 with "coin edge" case and delicate "teardrop" lugs. It is fitted with a refinished Valjoux calibre 23, a prestigious movement in its own right, produced since 1938 and utilising a column wheel rather than the cheaper cams."
