A George II silver bread basket.

Condition Report

A George II silver bread basket, the oval body with oblique beading interspersed with quatrefoil and foliate piercing, standing on an oval footed base conforming in decoration. Hallmarked Samuel Herbert & Co, London 1759. Maximum length measuring 12 1/2 inches (31.5 cm), weight 21 ozt (655 grams).

Purchasing information
    The lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Minor dints and bumps particularly to the delicate edges of the scroll piercing. Original handle with corresponding maker's mark and lion passant. One of the rivets of the handle appears a little twisted. Central construction mark to the underside has worn through to a tiny hole. Hallmarks to the body are clear and legible, both maker's marks are partly distorted.
