Condition Report
A George II/III silver open salt of plain cauldron shape, with replacement blue glass liner and raised on three stepped hoof feet, hallmarks partly illegible. Together with four Victorian open salts, two of floral embossed cauldron form and hallmarked Henry Wilkinson & Co., Sheffield 1865 and Alexander Macrae, London 1875, a further circular example with bow and swag decoration and a fixed porcelain liner, hallmarked Stokes & Ireland Ltd., Chester 1899, and finally a pierced oval salt raised on four ball feet, with a blue glass liner, Birmingham 1898. Combined weight not including salt with porcelain liner 5.12 ozt (159 grams). (5).

Purchasing information-
All five salts in the lot display general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with their age and use. The Georgian salt displays heavier tarnishing and wear including slight surface dints and bumps. The rim was likely once beaded but this is now very worn and a couple of small cracks in the metal are visible. The hallmarks are partly obscured, the lion passant and leopard's head crowned and part of a maker's mark are just visible. The smaller floral embossed salt has black spots to the inside and the larger one displays heavier scuffs and scratches to the inside. Some slight rubbing but the hallmarks on the four Victorian salts are mainly clear and legible.
