A 19th century Chinese Canton carved ivory chess set, of red stained and natural colour, each of three or four screw-thread sectional form and variation of design, the red king with sword and the white with staff, the red pawns armed with spears and the white with swords and shields, each piece raised upon concentric puzzle ball stem and flower head base, tallest piece 5.5" (14cm) high. Purchasing information-
Most pieces displaying damage or losses. White king is broken and detached at ankles, oval base does not re-screw to base. One Bishop with damage and small loss to screw threads of base and so does not stand. Knights missing spears/swords. Rooks each with losses and damage with one having crudely replace flag. Most pawns missing swords/spears and some with crude replacements.
