An early George II silver caster.

Description

Condition Report

An early George II silver caster, the octagonal sided body with footed base, girdle detail and engraved stag crest to one side, the cover of conforming shape and pierced with stylised foliate motifs. Hallmarked London 1728, maker's mark partly worn ?W. Maximum height to finial measuring 6 1/2 inches (16.5 cm), weight 6.74 ozt (209.7 grams).

Purchasing information
    The caster displays some general wear, tarnishing, surface marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use. Some minor dints and bumps. Repairs around base of body and the join of the foot. Crest is a little rubbed and there is a vertical seam? line visible to the left of it. The hallmarks are mostly clearly legible, maker's mark partly worn. Also engraved M*C?. The lid appears to be a good fit and bears lion passant and partly worn maker's mark.
