Condition Report

A late Victorian 9ct gold ruby and diamond hinged bangle, circa 1880. Designed as a series of alternating circular-shape ruby and rose-cut diamonds, within a scroll and bead surround, to the gathered rope-twist sides and plain half-bangle. Later import marks for Birmingham, 1990. Inner diameter 5.9cms. Weight 12.7gms.

Purchasing information
  • Overall condition fair to good. Some surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear.
  • Damage visible to one of the spheres, discolouration visible to some of the detail.
  • Scuff and area of discolouration to the reverse of the bangle.
  • Diamonds fairly well matched.
  • Cut and setting of rose-cut diamonds prevents total carat weight estimation.
  • Individual size and setting of diamonds prevents accurate colour and clarity assessment.

  • Rubies medium dark red, moderate saturation, with typical inclusions visible with the unaided eye.

  • Stones in fair condition with some abrasion and minor nibbles to the girdle and facet edges. Some abrasion visible to the table facet of one of the outer rubies.

  • With safety chain.

  • Later safety chain to tongue of clasp.
