Condition Report

A late Victorian gold, sapphire and diamond cluster ring, circa 1880. Of marquise-shape outline, the oval-shape sapphire and old-cut diamond sides, with similarly-cut diamond surround and scrolling shoulders. Estimated total diamond weight 1.50cts. Ring size N. Weight 4.6gms.

Purchasing information
  • Overall condition fair. Surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and dents in keeping with general age and wear.
  • Possible replacement gems.
  • Some settings are heavily worn and may need to be secured.
  • Some areas of dark discolouration visible to the inside of the band and settings
  • Diamonds fairly well matched.
  • Scattered light and dark inclusions to the diamonds some visible with the unaided eye, there are several surface reaching inclusions which appear as chips.
  • The durability of some diamonds is possibly impaired.
  • Individual size and setting of diamonds prevents accurate colour and clarity assessment.

  • Sapphire medium blue, moderate saturation of colour, with fairly good clarity and angular zoning and typical inclusions.

  • Stone in good condition with some abrasion and minor nibbles to the girdle and facet edges.
