Condition Report

ROLEX - a gentleman's Oyster Perpetual Submariner bracelet watch. Circa 1957. Stainless steel case with calibrated bezel. Reference 6538, serial illegible. Signed automatic calibre 1030, numbered N732625. Black dial with luminous hour markers, outer minute track. Fitted to a signed stainless steel Oyster bracelet with Oysterclasp. 37mm. Box and papers.

Purchasing information
    • Movement is currently functioning.
    • Movement has scratches, marks and tarnishing commensurate with general wear visible to the naked eye.
    • The dial shows marks and some cracking to the lacquer visible under an eye glass. Gilt printing has aged to a gilt-copper tone. Luminous material to the hour markers appears to have been reapplied at some point in the past.
    • Hands show marks and tarnishing. Luminous inserts show discolouration. Luminous insert in the second hand shows a crack when viewed under a loupe. Hands appear to be service replacements.
    • Glass has light scratches and small marks.
    • Case shows scratches, marks and dints. Rotating bezel rotates. Bezel insert appears to be a service replacement. Case back is stamped III.57 and 6538. Serial numbers are rubbed but the tops are visible and appear to match the numbers on the paperwork.
    • Crown screws down and has scratches and marks. Crown has a visible dint.
    • Bracelet has scratches and some signs of stretching to links. Noticeable dint to one of the links. Bracelet is later than the watch.
    • Clasp is currently functioning and shows visible scratches and marks. Clasp appears to have been polished.

       

    • Bracelet measures approximately 16.5cm including case.

      This lot comes with a box and papers to consist of an original guarantee dated 22.8.1958. Serial number on the guarantee appears to match the top of the serial number on the watch. Outer box shows visible wear, inner box has marks and some green covering on the box has come away. Inner box also shows marks and areas of discolouration to the interior. Lot to include a spare bezel which is later than the watch, spare glass and some movement parts. Lot also includes spare links for the bracelet. Lot includes letters and personal correspondence relating to the watch as well as receipts for work on the watch which are mostly in German.
