Lot 126: ROLEX - a military issue Oyster Perpetual Submariner Milsub wrist watch. Circa 1975.

    Addendum to Condition Report.

A query regarding the back of this watch has been raised and having investigated the legitimate concerns raised by this third party we are adding the following information:

Serial between the lugs - 3926975.

Serial inside case back - 3926958.

MOD Numbers on outside case back -    0552/923 - 7697

                                                                            402/75

We are now aware that the number 402/75 is a number which has been previously seen on a watch sold by Bonhams on 17th December 2008 (Lot 301).

    https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/16228/lot/301/

At that time it was noted by Henry Hudson that the back was probably a replacement.

There is evidence from people who served in the UK Forces that watches were serviced ‘en bloc’ and that on occasions the backs were not re-united with the correct case after servicing.  It is also understood that watches in the Forces were not always allocated sequential numbers.

We cannot offer any explanation as to why the watch on offer in our auction carries the same number as the one offered at Bonhams in 2008.
