Lot 72

Lot Description

Early Victorian silver lid for a glass bottle cruet insert, hallmarked Sheffield 1838 with the duty mark of William IV. Together with a further glass cruet bottle with silver mount and hinged lid, hallmarks very distorted.  (2).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Both bottles display general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use.  There is also some tarnishing to the silver mounts.  Some edge and rim nicks and chips to the glass, also some deeper scratches and contact marks, especially to the underside of each bottle.  Some small nicks and dints to the silver mounts.  Hallmarks on the Victorian example appear a little rubbed and there is some partial distortion, mainly to the maker's mark as it is cut off at the bottom.  The hallmarks on the other example are very difficult to read clearly.
