Lot Description

An early Victorian silver 'castle top' card case by Nathaniel Mills, the oblong form with scroll edge, the body embellished with floral scrolls upon a stippled background surrounding a vacant cartouche to the reverse and depicting a view of St. Paul's Cathedral in relief to the front. Hallmarked Nathaniel Mills, Birmingham 1845. Height measuring 4 inches (10 cm), weight 2.3 ozt (73.7 grams).

The card case displays general scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing. Seam to the edge visible. Probable small solder repairs to he edge. Minor dents to the corners and edge and a little compression to one corner. Cover and body fit well. Hinge loose and allows sideways movement. No engraving to the cartouche.  Hallmarks clear and legible.
