A 19th century French export silver snuff box with niello decoration.

Lot Description
A nineteenth century French export silver snuff box, the oblong form with curved sides, having repeated pattern decoration throughout in niello and the hinged lid further decorated with dancing figures. Struck with the Mercury export mark alongside an indistinct maker's mark and further mark. Measuring 3 3/4 inches (9.5 cm), weight 4.48 ozt (139.2 grams).

Condition Report
The box displays considerable wear and losses to the decoration with large areas completely worn away, especially to the figures on the lid and the pattern on the underside of the base. Further general surface marks and scratches. Hinged lid appears in good working order. Mercury mark also struck to interior base.
