Lot Description

A late Victorian silver swing-handled sugar bowl, the oval form with fluted lower body and embossed floral banding above, surrounding two vacant cartouches beneath a crimped rim edge, the whole raised upon a splayed oval foot, hallmarked Richard Richardson, Sheffield 1898, height inclusive of handle measures 6 1/2 inches (16.5 cm). Together with a George V silver swing-handled basket (liner missing), the tapered pierced body with reeded rim and handle, the whole raised upon a splayed oval foot, hallmarked George Nathan & Ridley Hayes, Chester 1914. Gross weight 10.1 ozt (316.6 grams). (2).

In good overall condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The foot of the Victorian example does not stand fully flat, some minor splits to the crimped rim near the handle on either side. The glass liner of the basket is not present. Hallmarks clear and legible. The late Victorian example is further marked with Richard Richardson's trade mark beneath the base which is two R's back to back within a shield.
