Lot Description

A selection of flatware and cutlery to include a mid-Victorian silver butter spade, the oval bowl with engraved floral sprig surrounded by cross hatch patterns within a zigzag border, leading to a tapered stem with monogrammed terminal, hallmarked Martin, Hall & Co (Richard Martin & Ebenezer Hall), Sheffield 1871, length measuring 7 3/8 inches (18.8 cm). Together with a George IV silver bladed butter knife with carved ivory handle, hallmarked Birmingham probably 1829, a late Victorian silver mounted pickle fork by George Unite, a small late Victorian silver handled page turner with ivory blade, a small 1930's pair of silver sugar tongs, etc. Gross weighable silver 3.5 ozt (111 grams).

In varied state, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The mid-Victorian butter spade is further marked with a Victorian lozenge registry mark for 18th February 1868, parcel 6, monogrammed with the initials 'H J?'. The Georgian butter knife has some minor cracks/splits to the carved ivory handle. The George Unite pickle fork is missing the terminal on one of its tines, the fork section is hallmarked, the handle appears unmarked. The small pickle fork has a mother-of-pearl terminal. The 1940's pickle fork is further marked 925. The cased set of butter knives have stainless steel blades, as do the cake slice, cheese knife and butter spreader. Majority of hallmarks clear and legible.
