Lot Description

A silver and silver-gilt commemorative goblet for St. Paul's Cathedral, designed for the third centenary, the plain tapering bowl with gilt interior and raised on a further gilded stem modelled as a phoenix rising from flames, to a stepped circular foot. Hallmarked Jocelyn Burton for Aurum, London 1975, and further stamped Aurum, limited edition no. 333/600, with certificate. Height 6 1/4 inches (16 cm), gross weight 9.61 ozt (299 grams).

The goblet appears in fairly good overall condition, displaying some general light surface wear, marks and scratches. Tarnishing to some areas. The rim of bowl is very slightly misshapen with a few minor edge nicks. Hallmarks located to underside, clear and legible.

Also impressed to underside, 'Number 333 of a limited edition of 600 made by order of the Dean and Chapter of St. Paul's to commemorate the 300th Anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone of the Cathedral in 1675.'
