Lot Description

A silver and silver-gilt commemorate bowl for St. Paul's Cathedral, designed for the 300th anniversary, of plain circular form to a footed base and a gilded handle to one side modelled as a phoenix rising from flames. Hallmarked Jocelyn Burton for Aurum, London 1975, and further stamped Aurum, limited edition no. 47/900, with certificate. Maximum length measuring 6 7/8 inches (17.5 cm), bowl diameter measuring 4 5/8 inches (11.7 cm), gross weight 7.63 ozt (237.4 grams).

The bowl appears in fairly good overall condition, displaying some general surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing. A few minor surface and edge nicks. Clearly legible hallmarks located to the underside.

Also impressed to underside 'Number 47 of a limited edition of 900 made by order of the Dean and Chapter of St. Paul's Cathedral to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone in 1675.'
