Lot 43

Lot Description

An early nineteenth century Newcastle silver basting spoon, in Hanoverian pattern with scratch initials H over M B to terminal reverse and double drop to heel. Hallmarked Newcastle, probably 1828, with maker's mark 'JB'. Length 13 3/4 inches (35 cm), weight 5.62 ozt (174.7 grams).

Postage: Postable

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Appears in fairly good overall condition, displaying some tarnishing and expected surface wear, marks, scratches and nicks in keeping with the age and use. Some slightly heavier wear around the edge of the spoon bowl but it has generally faired well. Hallmarks bottom struck and are clear and legible with some light rubbing. Maker's mark could be for James Bell (1824..1832) but punch is a different shape.
