Condition Report
- Testing around 92% - 93% Ag.
- Fellows uses a Thermo Scientific Nitron Handheld XRF Analyser to test metals. This technology is limited to examining metal to a depth of approximately 8 microns
- Fellows does not guarantee the standard of silver unless an item is hallmarked. Results from electronically tested items should only be used as a guide and with caution, as false readings are possible
- Displaying general surface wear, marks and scratches all over
- With heavier wear and little nicks and bruises around all the edges and corners
- Some general tarnishing all over
- There are some rim splits in the corners around the hinges on both ends, and there is a visible ridge seen inside the box along the join of the hinged lid
- The lid opens and closes well although not securely; there is a lighter band around the top of the box from the overhang of the lid when closed, which displays numerous heavier scratches and contact marks
- Some of the gilding is rubbed on the portrait of Charles I; gilding appears heavier to the reverse of the lid and portrait of Henrietta Maria
- Some slight loss of detail or definition to areas of the raised profile portraits, and also to areas of the engraved decoration
- The interior of the box appears stained, and the surface pitted all over
- Condition reports are offered as a guide only and we highly recommend inspecting any lot to satisfy yourself as to its condition
