Condition Report

An early 20th century gold peridot and ruby necklace and a brooch. The necklace designed as two early 20th century panels, each designed as a series of five graduated rectangular-shape peridot, with oval-shape ruby intervals, to the later curb-link chain, together with a similarly designed lozenge-shape peridot and ruby brooch. Length of necklace 40cms. Length of brooch 4.6cms. Weight 46.2gms.

Purchasing information
  • Overall condition fair. Surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and dents in keeping with general age and wear.
  • Dents scratches and areas of discolouration to the panels and brooch.
  • The early 20th century panels, were originally part of other pieces.
  • Two rectangular-shape links have been added to the back of each panel for the later chain to pass through.
  • There are areas of thread to the panels holding the panels and chain together.
  • The brooch was possibly originally designed for another purpose, the back brooch fitting added at a later date. Original clasp fittings to each ebd are present.
  • Ther peridot in the panels are well matched. The lozenge-shape peridot in the brooch is medium yellowish green, with a good saturation of colour.
  • Minor abrasion to the peridot in places.
  • The rubies are fairly well matched, some typical inclusions visible with the unaided eye. One ruby to the brooch is a possible replacement and does not match the other three.
