An early 20th century diamond, emerald, ruby and seed pearl peacock brooch.

Description

Condition Report

An early 20th century diamond and gem-set peacock brooch. The rose-cut diamond body, with emerald wings and crest, to the ruby and seed pearl fan tail, the legs gripping seed pearls. Length 6.1cms. Total weight 14.9gms.

Purchasing information
  • Overall condition fair. Some surface scratches, discolouration and small dents in keeping with general age and wear.
  • Alterations. Brooch fittings later added.
  • Some replacement gems. Dents and wear to the fittings.
  • One emerald deficient.
  • Gems presumed foil back.
  • Diamonds moderately well matched.
  • Individual size and setting of diamonds prevents accurate colour and clarity assessment.

  • Varied inclusions, some surface reaching.
  • Diamonds with chips and abrasion.
  • Emeralds vary noticeably, many emeralds chipped.
  • Rubies vary significantly in appearance, most appear pale purplish red hue.
  • Eye is not ruby.
  • One pearl to the foot is drilled.
  • Seed pearls are fairly well matched. Uneven surface, good lustre.
  • Foreign marks to the front of the legs, marks worn, indistinct.
