Condition Report

A mid 20th century gold opal and diamond dress ring. The oval opal cabochon, to the single-cut diamond stepped sides and plain band. Approximate opal dimensions: 17 by 13.4, by 7.8mms. Estimated total diamond weight 0.35ct. Weight 6.6gms.

Purchasing information
  • Overall condition good to fair. Surface scratches and discolouration in keeping with general wear and age.

  • The opal is white in tone with good play of colour showing predominately greens and blues, there is a surface reaching fracture with associated chip, which could affect durability.
  • The diamonds are bright, lively and fairly well matched.
  • One diamond has a dark coloured inclusions visible through the table, some have dark coloured inclusions only visible with magnification, some have no obvious inclusions under magnification.
  • Individual size and setting prevents accurate colour and clarity assessment.
  • The inside of the band has a resizing spring which is stamped 750.
