Condition Report

A late Victorian gold garnet and split pearl brooch, circa 1880. Designed as a split pearl star, inset to the grooved circular garnet cabochon, within a bead accent star motif domed panel, suspending tassel and swags. Length 6.5cms. Weight 14.3gms.

Purchasing information
  • Overall condition fair. Surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and dents in keeping with general age and wear.
  • Dents and scratches visible to the reverse surround, some possible areas repair.
  • Some possible replacement late 19th century components.
  • Some glue and dark tarnishing visible to the inner backing.
  • Some abrasion visible to the edging of the back glass panel.
  • Possible replacement later gemstones.
  • Some cracks visible to the nacre of the split pearl visible with magnification.
  • Some typical inclusions to the garnet visible with the unaided eye.
  • The back pin is white metal.
