Condition Report

A gold reverse-carved intaglio brooch. The cabochon carved and painted to depict an otter upon waves, pierced to the shoulder, with bead and engraved foliate surrounds. Diameter 2.7cms. Weight 8.4gms. With fitted case.

  • Overall condition fair to good. Some surface scratches and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear.
  • Pait appears in good condition.
  • Possible deficiency or replacement reverse.
  • Replacement fittings and signs of small alterations to the reverse. Piece appears fairly recently cleaned to a high finish.
  • Case shows typical wear, dirt and discolouration. Silk marked for Bright & Sons, Scarborough.
