After years of trading wool, tracing back to the 1800s, Pietro Loro Piana founded Loro Piana in 1924. In 1941 Pietro’s nephew Franco established the company as the main supplier of premium wool and cashmere supplies. In the 1970s Sergio and Pier Luigi took over the company. Following their relative's footsteps they took the company to the next steps by diverging into the world of luxury goods. Eventually, trading internationally too.

Today Loro Piana is a well-known supplier of ready-to-wear garments and accessories in Italy. They are known for sourcing the finest and rarest raw materials including unique cashmere from baby goats in northern China and Mongolia, vicuña from the Andes, extra-fine Merino wool from Australia and New Zealand and lotus flower fibre from Myanmar. They have 171 stores worldwide and create 5 million meters of fabric annually.

Loro Piana Backpacks

On the 20th August 2024 Fellows will be featuring two backpacks from Loro Piana. They have been produced using Calfskin leather. Calfskin leather is thin and has a smooth appearance with a fine grain yet still holds a certain durability. This is due to its fibre structure being more tightly interwoven than cows'. The benefit of using Calfskin for handbags is that is is much better at maintaining its shape and is waterproof.
