Lot 55

A Victorian silver pedestal cream jug with chased decoration.

Description

Condition Report

A Victorian silver pedestal cream jug, ornately chased throughout with continuous panels of animals, birds, fruit bouquets and deity style figures against a stippled ground, with conforming decoration to the circular spread foot and a scrolling caryatid handle. Hallmarked London 1879, maker's mark partly distorted but likely Daniel & Charles Houle. Height including handle measuring 5 5/8 inches (14.3 cm), weight 8.69 ozt (270.4 grams).

Please note: When placing absentee bids, your bids will be rounded up to the nearest bid increment. For more information click the 'Important Notices for Purchasers' button above.

Purchasing information
The jug appears quite tarnished and would benefit from a clean and polish. Some general surface wear, marks and scratches. Slight rubbing and loss of surface detail to areas of decoration but it is generally still good. Small solder repairs along seam lines. Knocks to foot rim so that it wobbles a little. Hallmarks clear and legible but maker's mark partly distorted.
