An early twentieth century silver mounted tortoiseshell inkstand, the rectangular form with serpentine front and raised, everted sides, having applied borders of husk motifs and ribbon garlands, the centre further inlaid with ribbon tied husk swags and fitted with a square silver mount containing an etched glass ink bottle with conforming silver mounted and tortoiseshell hinged lid, also monogrammed, the whole raised on four silver corner bracket feet, hallmarked William Comyns & Sons, London 1913, maximum length measuring 8 7/8 inches (22.5 cm); together with a 1920's silver mounted comb. Purchasing information-
Displaying general surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use. Some tarnishing to the silver mounts and applied borders. The two front corners with significant damage and repairs including a reinforcement piece added to one of the bracket feet on the underside. Also two pin mounts missing from the central mount. The glass ink bottle appears in fairly good condition. The hinged lid appears in good working order although one of the hinge pins is loose. It fits well in the mount. Hallmarked to the feet, central mount for bottle and also lid of ink bottle, mostly clear and legible.
