Gerald & Simon Benney

The Benney family’s portfolio of work began with British goldsmith Gerald Benney (1930 – 2008). Gerald, famous for his diverse designs including enamelling, has had work exhibited in various museums, including the Victoria & Albert Museum. He was the first craftsman to hold four Royal Warrants simultaneously.

Gerald’s son, Simon, also specialises in enamel – with his work commissioned by the Royal Household. In 1993, Gerald and Simon set up a shop in London’s Knightsbridge. Simon’s work is hand-made into modern aesthetics. In addition, supplying the Royal Family with silverware and jewellery, the company has been a Royal Warrant holder continuously since 1974. Based in Berkshire, House of Benney remains under Simon’s directorship.

Nicola Whittaker, Business Development Manager at Fellows Auctioneers, said: A highlight in our Fine Jewellery auction is this outstanding amethyst cuff bangle by Simon Benney. We have sold a few antiques from the Benney family in the past but nothing like this alluring piece of jewellery.

“The bangle is simply beautiful to look at and I can’t wait to see it go under the hammer. It’s not often that we get to see such great quality amethysts at this weight, it is wonderful to be able to handle such a fantastic gem.”
