Condition Report

A late 19th century silver and 9ct gold diamond star brooch. The old-cut diamond, within an old and rose-cut diamond six-rayed surround, to the old-cut diamond knife-edge bar intervals and similarly-cut diamond surmount. Estimated total diamond weight 3cts. Length 5cms. Weight 11.2gms.

Purchasing information
    Overall condition fair. Some surface wear in keeping with age. Brooch pin and hinge fitting deficient. Significant evidence of repair to the brooch fitting, one area slightly misshapen due to repair. Surmount in poor condition with significant repairs, slightly misshapen, replacement stones. Some possible replacement stones to the main brooch. Diamonds fairly bright and well matched. Individual size/setting prevents accurate colour/clarity assessment. Principal diamond estimated weight 0.55ct, limitations of the setting apply. Feather visible through the table facet under magnification. Principal diamond in good condition with minor abrasion. Outer diamonds generally with scattered inclusions visible under magnification, some with larger inclusions visible to the unaided eye. Diamonds in fair to good condition, mostly with minor abrasion, some with significant nicks and chips.
