A limited edition set of James Bond watches is set to cause a stir at our upcoming auction, one week before the release of the next James Bond film – No Time To Die. Only 280 of these sets exist worldwide. There are 20 Swatch timepieces on offer. Moreover, they each relate to a separate Bond flick, spanning 40 years of cinematic history. History of the Bond Watches Each individual watch has its corresponding film listed underneath its suitcase slot. The watches range from Dr. No (1962), to Die Another Day (2002). The collection was released on the 40th anniversary of the first film – between Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig’s stints as 007. As a limited collection, they are all numbered 139 of 280 ever made. The quartz watches were created in the style of their film, with the straps and dials also featuring their film titles and the 007 wording. Since the 2002 40th anniversary set, Swatch have released several 007 collections – including a villain and a Q collection. A newer 007 collection Swatch watch will be worn by Q in the upcoming No Time To Die film. Kes Crockett, Watch Specialist at Fellows Auctioneers, said: “This fascinating collection of limited edition James Bond watches should be on the wish list of all 007 fans. A Rolex Submariner worn by 007 could fetch a whopping £90,000 at Fellows Auctioneers in Birmingham. The magnificent timepiece – worn by Timothy Dalton’s stunt double during the British spy thriller, Licence to Kill, in 1989 – is estimated at £60,000 – £90,000 in Fellows’ upcoming Watch Sale on Tuesday 30th October*. The stunning timepiece, reference 5513, will be on view in Fellows’ London and Birmingham offices leading up to the auction. The Rolex featured in a memorable scene during a car chase where 007 is driving a tanker truck in Mexico. The watch comes with photos of the crew on set in Mexico, as well as paperwork from Rolex, a book detailing the making of the movie, a soundtrack album, and a certificate of authenticity from EON Productions (the film company).  A section of the Rolex was damaged during the stunt, and paperwork included with the item states that Rolex fixed the watch free of charge after the incident. Rolex worn by Timothy Dalton’s stunt double Licence to Kill was Timothy Dalton’s final appearance as 007 in the franchise. Piers Brosnan then took over as the famous British spy. Shot almost entirely in Mexico and the US, Licence to Kill puts 007 up against a fierce drug lord. Laura Bishop, Watch Manager at Fellows Auctioneers, said: “This is one of the rarest and most fascinating watches we have ever had up for auction at Fellows. It’s amazing to think this watch was on screen in a James Bond movie. The more I read about the provenance of the watch, and how it featured in such a classic Bond scene, the more excited I get about selling it.” Bishop added: “We’ve sold a historic Panerai dating back to the Second World War this year, as well as a watch containing the world’s oldest rum. This Rolex is the icing on the cake for our watch auctions. We are sure it will entice both lovers of Rolex and James Bond fans.” *Please note the Rolex Submariner was worn onscreen by Timothy Dalton’s stunt double, not Timothy Dalton himself. A rare, early Rolex Submariner has sold for £48,488 including buyer’s premium at Fellows Auctioneers in Birmingham. The gentleman’s stainless-steel Oyster Perpetual Submariner was sold at approximately 1:50pm on Tuesday 28th August at Fellows. The fascinating timepiece, reference 6538, was one of the first models worn by Sean Connery’s 007 in early James Bond films, such as Dr. No*. Lot 285 in The Watch Sale This particular Submariner was introduced in 1958, and it comes with original box and papers, which is unusual for a vintage watch. The beautiful timepiece has a black dial with luminous hour markers, and an outer minute track. It is fitted to a signed stainless-steel Oyster bracelet with Oysterclasp and features the original Rolex Submariner dial. The case measures 37mm. The tension could be felt across the saleroom as the hammer price for the timepiece kept increasing as each minute went by. Phone bidders went head to head and Fellows were eventually delighted to sell the Rolex Submariner for a whopping hammer price of £38,000, which including all fees brings the total sale of the Rolex to a total of £48,488. Laura Bishop, watch manager at Fellows Auctioneers, said: “We are delighted to have sold such a fascinating and rare item. These 6538 models do not come up for sale often so we are thrilled and over the moon with the result. This watch has got some service replacement parts but this does not detract from the true nature of the watch. It is always a privilege to see amazing watches such as this one go under the hammer.” *Price including buyer’s premium. **Please note this watch is not the same timepiece worn by Sean Connery, but the equivalent model. Fellows hold eight high value Watch Sales per year, and the next in-demand Watch Sale will take place on Tuesday 30th October 2018. A Watches & Watch Parts sale will take place on Monday 24th September, comprising of items ranging from boxes, watch bracelets and parts to entry level watches by well-known makers.
