The “Little Drop of Strength” necklace in Fellows’ 14th May Jewellery Sale sold for £520, far surpassing its £80 – £120 auction estimate. Fellows Auctioneers are donating the buyer’s premium from the lot, making the total donation £663.52. All money will go to DKMS. The necklace registered a huge amount of interest, receiving 51 bids from a total of nine bidders. The countdown timer for the item kept increasing as bids were placed on the necklace right up to the final second. It featured as Lot 20 in the sale, and sold at approximately 10:30am in Fellows’ highly sought-after Jewellery Sale.    Fellows sold the necklace on behalf of designer, social media influencer and DKMS ambassador Sally Hurman. Sally was inspired to create the solid silver, teardrop-shaped pendant due to her own very personal connection to the cause following her husband’s diagnosis of blood cancer five years ago. Sally, known to her social media audience by her handle Getting Stuff Done in Heels, regularly uses her platform to encourage followers to register online with DKMS. Stephen Whittaker, Managing Director of Fellows Auctioneers, said: “To see so many bids from a variety of people on the Little Drop of Strength necklace was a delight. All of the proceeds from the sale of this item will be going to DKMS, a great charity with a worthy cause.” Caroline Richardson, Head of Fundraising at DKMS, said: “We’re thrilled that Fellows supported DKMS through the auction of Sally Hurman’s stunning Little Drop of Strength necklace to help in the fight against blood cancer. The £663.52 raised will be put to good use immediately by providing around 16 home swab kits to potential lifesavers.” Every 20 minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with a blood cancer, such as leukaemia, myeloma or lymphoma and often a blood stem cell donation is the best treatment method to help give someone a second chance of life.  It costs £40 to register one potential blood stem cell donor. DKMS relies on monetary donations to help cover this cost. The donation from the sale of this necklace will allow the charity to process 16 donor kits. If you are aged between 17-55 and in general good health, please register for your home swab kit online at dkms.org.uk.
